How to re-facing kitchen cabinets

Kitchen cabinet re-facing is another affordable way to give your kitchen a much-needed facelift.

This project can be hired out to professionals, or it can be accomplished successfully by the homeowner. If you plan on re-facing your kitchen cabinets yourself, first determine the quantity of doors required, and measure each door and drawer. Double check to make sure the quantity required and all the cabinet dimensions have been recorded accurately.

Consider replacing the old hinges on the kitchen cabinets so they all match and function properly. Hinges are economical, and will provide a consistent look throughout your kitchen. Hidden hinges are desirable, because they function very well, and the only time they are seen is when you open the cabinet door.

There are two main types of doors you can choose from for re-facing; the first is solid wood doors and the second is Rigid Thermo Foil. Wooden doors are often more expensive, depending on the type of wood you choose. There are some solid wood doors that come unfinished so they can be painted or stained for a variety of looks. Rigid Thermo Foil doors are manufactured from a wood composite, and laminated with a durable vinyl coating.

Rigid Thermo Foil doors are often used for a more contemporary look that will have nice clean straight lines and usually no designs in them. Wooden doors are great if you have wooden flooring in your kitchen. You can contrast the colors from your floor to the doors or get something that matches because wood is very versatile and it will match almost anything.
